RE: Snow load

A 200 pound person walking on the roof with their weight dispersed by their feet is far more of a load than a deep blanket of snow dispersed across the roof.

RE: When will small diesel pickups show up?

Wrong with the 4BT? It's a 600lb hunk of iron, it's loud, it's tall, it shakes badly at idle, it's slow to rev. It's a good engine, but completely unsuitable for this application.
Actually it is second to none Jarlaxle. :) It definitely is not suitable for the 1/2 ton truck market.

RE: Reports: Chrysler, GM discuss merger,

I think it is a no brainer that if this merger were to take place the dodge body and interior would be a thing of the past.
And those of us with the Dodge's will be sitting on collectors items still chugging along against newer inferior products.

RE: Low ash oil

Ppl are over thinking the term "special". We should be saying "required". It's not special because 99% of engine oil produced today meets the CJ specification that the EPA’s On-Highway 2007 Exhaust Emissions Standards required. It was starting to be pushed to the market in Oct 06. If you have a new 08 or 09 diesel and the dealer throws around the term "special oil", they are blowing smoke up your tookus. There is nothing special about it since it is mandated. CJ oil is not better than CI or CH. It doesn't last as long and UOA's show that it is inferior to the older oils. But as noted, it is required for the 08 and newer diesel engine.
As for the "increase" in price because of CJ oil, we can thank the price of the barrel and because the dealers use it as an excuse to price gouge.

RE: Low ash oil

The gallon jugs barely raised in price when the CJ spec hit the market. Maybe a $1 a gallon if I recall correctly. The price of a barrel of oil is what has driven oil prices up. A year ago, Shell Rotella 15w-40 could be bought for about $8.89 a gal. In late 2005 I was buying gal jugs of Rotella for $6.88 a gal.
Yep. New blend, more money, inferior product. I'm sticking with Amsoil's 15w-40 CI rating.

RE: Low ash oil

There's nothing "expensive" or "special" about CJ class oil. It is the new standard. As soon as the emissions hit the streets for the 08 model diesel engines, the oil was already on the shelves. All of the oil companies are complying with the new spec.

RE: Dodge Ram 2500

All three engines are good engines. I am partial to the Cummins. Second choice would be a newer Duramax. No way I would own a 6.0.
The Cummins 5.9L ISB engine is so widespread it's not even funny. It's used in Marine, Generators, Oil fields, Buses, Military Vehicles, Construction Equipment, and a few others. It has been in production since 1989.
Here is a updated pic of the different rods used in the big three engines. I think this was taken at a State Fair back in 05 for the 06 models.

RE: I forgot my camera!!

~DJ~
I also didn't have a camera the other day. I was coming on to Andrews AirForce base on Tues and saw a Tundra CrewMax pulling a 28-32' (range) Bighorn. It was saggin so bad I know it had to be on the jounce bumpers. With that bed being so small, it looked as if the hitch wasn't even over the rear axle.

RE: Dodge Cummins Problem

As the others have said, it's the lift pump. Cycle the key 3 times with out turning over the engine and you can pretty much guarantee that code p0628 will show up where the odometer shows.

RE: What oil filter for your TV? (pictures included + long)

The original Fram for the cummins was PH3976. When the troubles started popping up Fram redesigned the filter and that is why the number is now PH3976A.
The Mopar filters for the Cummins are rebadged Fleetguard LF3959 or LF3972 if it were to have the fluted end. They are not the Stratapore. They are cellulose (paper).

RE: Pros/Cons of GM diesels

My good friend and neighbor has a 07 3500 w/duramax.
He likes the power of it and the tranny is great also.
But he did have a major issue that stranded him in Carlsbad NM. Engine wont start!!
The local dealership took a look and found sever breaks in the injector wire harness. The wire looked like 28AWG at first glance, and the insulation was falling off.
The try to fix just that wire/break approach would have caused the wire to simply break in another spot. So they offered a WHOLE new engine wire harness to replace the bad one. Cept the new one had the exact same wires, and none of this was covered under powertrain warranty!! $2400 out of pocket later and headin home he decides that this will be his LAST duramax ever.
The techs at the dealership said that they had seen this exact thing happen quite a bit on that motor.
Just my $.02
Absolutely no reason that shouldn't have been covered under warranty. That is not a wear and tear item like brake pads or a clutch disc.

RE: Heated Sewer Hose

They aren't cheap but seem to be a no brainer solution to freezing lines. I have some buddies that are buying all the heat tape, hose, ty wraps and I think they will end up with a mess before its all done.
Heated water hose
It is absolutely mind boggling that they ask that much for their hoses. Simplicity is the only plus factor.

RE: Firestone Ride-Rite Air Bag Question

There is absolutely nothing wrong with running airbags. IMO fords need them the worst. Every stinking ford I see towing a camper of some sort is always sagging in the rear. All airbags should be used for is to get the rear ride height back up to where it should be. Not to tow over your limits.
I had a set of the Firestone airbags to put on my Dodge, but after hooking up the first time, my truck squatted no more than level in the rear. I sent them back.

RE: pudh/pull rffect while towing??

Sounds like nothing more than a bad case of chucking/jerking.
Are the airbag and shock part of the hitch or the pinbox? IIRC Airborne had a few pinboxes sent out with the shock installed wrong. After a quick phone call with their tech support and the situation, they remedied the problem and all was well.
